How to Get Rid of Pesky Smells in Your Apartment

taylor-hernandez-401953

As hard as we try and as clean as we may be, sometimes our apartments can still get dirty and smells can linger. There’s nothing worse than walking into your apartment and noticing a strong unpleasant smell. Luckily there are ways to fix this! We have some advice for you to get rid of pesky smells in your apartment!

Do Some Sleuthing

Sometimes your entire apartment can smell so you can’t figure out where it’s coming from. Before you tackle the smell, you need to figure out where it’s coming from. First, check out the usual suspects like your garbage or the kitchen sink. You might not notice anything in your garbage bins, but sometimes smells can linger for a while. Giving them a rinse with some water and vinegar can help to disinfect and hopefully remove any pesky food debris.

If the smell isn’t food related and is coming from something like your carpets, there are a few things you can do. You can try and do an intense vacuum to lift some of the smell or you can try to do a spot clean with this recipe. Mold and mildew can be problems in older apartments and if you think this is the cause of the smell, you will want to get these taken care of immediately. Depending on your lease your landlord will probably be responsible for this.

Air it out

Once you’ve cleaned, try and open your windows to help air out your apartment. If you’re lucky enough to have a balcony, leave the door open for a bit to let some fresh air cycle in. Filling your apartment with fresh air will help to minimize the smell. You can also set up some fans to blow air through your apartment as a backup.

Call in the professionals

If all else fails, you might have to call in the professionals, or simply rent your own carpet cleaner. If you’ve tried to get rid of the smell on your own and it’s not improving, a professional carpet cleaning service might be required. A professional clean will help to keep your carpets smelling and looking their best.
