Summer is here and that means an increase in temperature and an increase in unwanted pests. Before the days get too hot, you will want to make sure everything is in proper working order. Here are some things you can do to get your apartment ready for summer.
Change direction of your ceiling fans
Your ceiling fans are meant to rotate clockwise in the winter and can be changed to spin counter-clockwise for the summer months. If you set your fan to higher speeds in the summer you will get more of a breeze and you can turn down your air conditioning.
Check your air conditioner
Before you’re stuck with the sweltering heat check your air conditioning unit and ensure you change the filter. If you do have central air, it is wise to call in a professional to make sure everything is in working order.
Check your windows and doors
Make sure that you check your windows and doors for any cracks or holes in the seals. After the winter, the seals may have worn down and there may be new gaps. This will help you reduce energy costs and keep the cool air inside.
Switch to LED bulbs
Replace your incandescent bulbs with LED bulbs because they give off less heat and will reduce the temperature in your apartment. Switching to LEDs is a great choice because they last a lot longer and they use much less energy.
